FROSTBITE  TROPHY SERIES - 2012

A total of  SIX  rounds will be sailed, with SIX races being sailed EACH week, best FOUR rounds to count.   The same yacht must be sailed in each round, unless mechanical problems cannot be repaired at the lakeside.
ROUND ONE

After two postponements, the series started on 31 January with a figure-of-eight two-lap course, in a cold easterly breeze under a leaden sky. Nine skippers turned out, but Steve Booth was prevented from racing by a rudder problem, and Roger Monks missed the first three races because of a prolonged search for his car keys.  Before the start, the Captain entertained the other skippers by losing a rescue-boat oar whilst re-positioning a buoy. Brian Hartley leads the way with three wins, followed by Neil Thornton with two, and Tony Watts with one.

ROUND TWO

Eight skippers turned out, glad that the ice had gone that had caused the cancellation of sailing the previous two Tuesdays. A triangular two-lap course was adopted for the first five races in a blustery south-west breeze. With a wind change from the north-west, the course for the sixth race was changed to a large figure-of-eight, at times on the limit for the No 1 suits. Brian Hartley surrendered the lead to Neil Thornton, who declared himself “quite happy” with his five wins out of six. Roger Monks took second position, with one win and four second places, whilst Tom Willgoss took third position for the day. The overall leaders for the series so far are Neil, Brian and Tony Watts. A recurring rudder servo problem forced Steve Booth to retire from today’s racing. All skippers wish a speedy recovery to Dave Johnston, who was confined to barracks with a chest infection.
