ROUND ONE
Skippers
were greeted today with a "Nithering North East" wind, which is what
they have been waiting for, for quite some time now, (not the
nithering, just the wind). Some of them opted for their No1
suit, others No2, then after race two they changed up to No1's.
Tony Watts took the first two races, it must have been his holiday
in the sun that worked wonders, then Neil with his new boat "Speck"
won the third, and Roger winning the last three. Having said
that there was some very close racing, with only inches between the
yachts at times.
Tony
& Roger finished up with equal points on the day, but Tony gets the
maximum 100 as he had the better result in the first two races,
Roger only managed two third places. I know he won the last
three, but that's life...............
David
Johnston had his new yacht "Nimbus Mk3" (No 70) out for the first time
today, the middle photograph is the start of round 1, and yacht No 117 is
the "Widget" owned and sailed by Tony Watts.
Can I
just remind you to let Steve know, A.S.A.P. if you will be joining
in the "Thornwick Bay" event on Tuesday 27th April as he needs to
purchase the food for lunch time.
ROUND TWO
Another
glorious day, still a tad cold with a West North West wind. Our
leader after the first round had another good day, with three wins
and two second places. Neil is not letting him get too far
away though, he had two wins and two second places. His new
boat "Speck" is proving to be a very good design, let's hope he can
do well next Tuesday in the Thornwick Bay Event.
ROUND THREE
Ten
skippers joined in today, to be greeted by a chilly north north east
breeze. First blood went to Tony Watts, then Neil started
where he left off last Tuesday when he won the Thornwick Bay Model
Week event, with four wins out of the six. Unfortunately it
was not enough to beat his close rival Brian Hartley, as Brian beat
him by just one point over the day. When looking at the scores
for the day, I could not fathom out why this was, that is until I
looked a little closer. Perhaps the information below will
explain things.

numbers 9 & 10 are the total points for the day, the ones with a
pinkish background are the discard scores, the others are the
finishing positions in each race. I hope this is of some
help to you.
ROUND FOUR
Another full house of ten skippers today, and a cold east north east
wind, which unfortunately didn't keep the rain off, so it was an
early tea break after the first race, which was won by Neil.
Because it was still raining, tea break was extended to lunch time.
The long rest certainly did Brian Hartley a lot of good, because he
went on to win the next three races, and Tony Watts the last two.
Steve Booth seemed to have a problem or two with his rudder servo
locking over, and his yacht going round in ever decreasing circles,
in his words, he was just there to keep the numbers up, and make the
other nine look good.
ROUND FIVE
Absolutely glorious weather, and shirt sleeve order for most of the
skippers today, with a very steady east north east breeze.
Only one more round to go in this series, which has been a big
splash from start to finish for one of our skippers
..................... Tony Watts has won this event, but
who will keep their cool for the position of runner-up. Watch
this space next week when all will be revealed.
ROUND SIX
Eight of
our skippers sailed in this the last round of the Spring Splash
Series, which was all about who would come second. Tony Watts,
as you already know, could not be beaten, but second place was still
up for grabs. Tony put his heart and soul into racing today,
winning the first three races, which left Neil and Brian fighting it
out for second place. They both had one win each, but Neil
also had three second places giving him a better result, which after
his misfortune at the event at Keighley at the weekend, should make
him feel just a little bit better.
