ROUND ONE
The weather today was slightly overcast with a South Westerly variable breeze, together with some strong gusts. This meant that the ten skippers had to drop down to No 2 suit. Tony Watts, who won this series last year, got off to a flying start winning the first race and two more. Brian Hartley, Tony Friston and David Johnston. shared the other three. ROUND TWOA fresh North Westerly breeze today with frequent gusts, so No2 suit was the order of the day. Roger took full advantage of the situation with his "Lintel" registering four wins. It was not really weather for the "Tonics" even though Jammy did win the first and last race, and put him top of the leader board. David Johnston had a good day, just beating Tony Watts into third place, but still 8 points behind Tony. Neil Thornton took charge of the racing today acting as OOD, making sure things were kept on an even keel..... ROUND THREEA good, but chilly, North Easterly wind today, so as in round 2, it was No2 suit again. Once aqain Roger took first blood winning the first two races and race five, it looked like another day for the "Lintel". However, Brian had other ideas, and won races three and six, but Tony Friston sneaked in and won race four in convincing style. Bob Underwood had his first days racing with his new yacht, under the watchful eye of Neil who once again kept things in order as OOD. As Roger won three of the six races, you would have thought he should have come out on top, but that is not the case. I have included the full score sheet so you can see why............... If you have any questions, please ask John Foster, and he will explain.
ROUND FOUR Not quite as much wind, but still from a North Easterly direction. Honours were shared by three skippers today. Roger two - Brian two and Tony Watts two. The results were similar to last week in that Roger, even though he had two wins, only managed to finish fourth on the day. This still leaves Brian out in front, with David Johnston and Tony Watts still chasing him, will they catch him, who knows. Unfortunately Andy had to pull out after race five due to the jib track on his yacht parting company with the hull. Hopefully he will have it sorted for next week. ROUND FIVE Only one more race to go in this series and Brian (Jammy) Hartley is still holding on to his lead, with Tony Watts, Roger Monks and David Johnston still in there fighting for the other top places. A westerly wind today with warm sunny spells helped Roger to take three of the six races, David Johnston two, and Brian the last one of the day. Neil Thornton, who is still without a boat but will have one sorted before the next series, kept the skippers in order. ROUND SIX Even though Brian (Jammy) Hartley had his worst result in this series today, only managing fifth place, he still had enough points in the bag to secure his win of the series, Well done Brian. Quite a strong South West wind today, so it was No 2 suit for all nine skippers. There were wins for Roger 2 - David 1 - Tony Watts 1 and well done to Steve Booth and Andy Kirkup who won one race each, well done guys. Once again Neil kept his beady eye on proceedings. ************************************************************* Most of you may know by now that we lost one of our long standing members this week.
