ROUND ONE
Not very summery weather for
the first round of the Summer series, warm but rather wet,
however it did not deter seven hardy souls to gather down at the
lake for the first round of another IOM series. The wind
was certainly playing tricks as it shifted all over the lake,
making things difficult at times getting in the right place at
the right time. Neil won the fist two races, then Tony
Watts got things sorted and won the next three, with Brian
saving face winning the last one.
The prize for the winner of this series, is a beautiful painting which has been presented to the B.M.B.S. Yacht Section by a member, and accomplished local artist, Tony Watts. Tony did say that if he was lucky enough to win the series, he would give it to the skipper in second place.
ROUND TWO
We started with a east/north/east wind over
most of the lake, with eight hardy skippers
ready to do battle once again. It was a
mixed bag of racing with Neil Thornton
winning three races, and Tony Watts, Brian
Hartley and Roger Monks winning one race
each. We also welcomed a new member today,
welcome Andy Kirkup, I hope you enjoyed
today's racing. Neil now has a slender lead
over Tony Watts the winner of the last
series, the Spring Splash.
ROUND THREE It appears that Brian Hartley has been over doing things recently .............................. with his yacht I mean. Somehow or other he managed to break his sailwinch, but hopefully he will be back to fight again next week. After a short lay off due to work commitments, Simon Pritchard is back sailing again, welcome back Simon. A south/south/west greeted us today, then after lunch turned round to south/south/east which meant a slight course change. Mick Giles and Tony Watts had two wins each, Tony Friston and Roger Monks one each. ROUND FOUR Brian (not so jammy this week) Hartley, back with us this week, but only managing joint third place with Roger, I suppose he will blame the cloudy weather and the north easterly wind today. Once again there was some very close racing, with Neil just creeping ahead of Tony Watts today, and still chasing him, only nine points separating them with two races left. Our captain Steve Booth thinks Neil is after the painting............... ROUND FIVE A little bit cloudy today, the sun was trying to break through, but it didn't stop Neil seeing his way round the course and winning four of the six races. This now puts him in the lead at the moment, just...... Rumour has it he has made some space for the painting already. Brian Hartley won one race, and the other was quite a surprise for Tony Friston with his model "Blott" I understand he had to have a sit down and was given a drink to calm his nerves, well done Tony. |
ROUND SIX
Following a discussion with the skippers present, it was decided, because of the ongoing problem with a small amount of weed still affecting sailing, to have just two races today. Even though the weed was cut last week prior to the Fast Electric UK Championships, there are still small amounts floating. The unfortunate thing is that there is nothing available on the market that we can purchase at the moment, so cutting is the only answer. A close eye will be kept on the situation and dealt with accordingly, any help will be appreciated.
